Art Therapy

Art Therapy in Palo Alto, CA

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that combines traditional talk therapy with nonverbal communication through the creation of artwork in a non-threatening and supportive environment.

Art Therapy is a mind-body intervention, utilizing the active qualities of art-making and the resulting artwork to express feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, and give a greater sense of self-awareness. It can help clients to manage behaviors, improve social awareness and skills, and reduce anxiety.

Art therapy does not require artistic talent, in fact it encourages exploration and “mistakes” to help clients alleviate feelings of helplessness, gain a sense of control and improve feelings of well-being. Art Therapy is not an intervention “just for kids.” Children, families together, couples and individual adults and in groups can all benefit from Art Therapy.
